A VISION OF SPAIN
THROUGH ART AND FASHION
This December, the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute presents an exhilarating exhibit analyzing the rich history of Spain's regional clothing styles through the pairing of paintings, by Valencian artist Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida (1863 - 1923), and costumes by contemporary designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Cristian Lacroix, Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld, and more to reflect the impact of Spanish style on modern fashion.
Organized by fashion savants, Oscar de la Renta and Andre Leon Talley, "This exhibit" writes Talley "aims to impart the color, beauty, history, and joy of dressing… Each designer, each dress gives you a glimpse of the beauty of Spain" he describes.
This chic assemblage of costume and fashion is sure to inspire and demonstrate Spain's enduring influence on fashion throughout the ages.
Joaquin Sorolla & The Glory Of Spanish Dress is on view 10am - 6pm, Monday - Thursday, 10am - 8pm Fridays and 10am - 5pm Saturdays, at Queen Sofia Spanish Institute / December 2011 - March 10, 2012
